Build-up of our Background Information
Before we began our Service Leading Trip, we visited the Han-la Library to do some research on the contributing factors of economy of Jeju Island. We re-created and redesigned the information we found in both ways of visuals and words. We defined that Tourism is the once source of income in Jeju island and further analysis is written below the graphs.
Tourism is the major industry of Jeju island that contributes to its economy the most. The number of foreigners visiting Korea kept increasing during the last 9 years by 3.6% annually.
Since the tourism is the only source of economy-enhancing industry, determining specific factors that attract people from visiting Jeju island and developing on those particularly preferred services or infrastructures would be strategic in terms of triggering more tourists and making them feel satisfied while staying in Jeju. Before we conducted interviews on random tourists in O’sulloc, one of the most famous tourist attractions of Jeju Island, our group visited the Han-la library to do some research on the world trend of tourism. We also drew some solutions that would encourage more travelers to visit Jeju.
Jeju’s industrial tourism had faced various changes due to the shift in economy. Industrialization caused the birth of lucrative factory owners and led into the advent of large middle class in many parts of the world. The middle class people tend to enjoy their spare time within and without their countries. The magnitude of middle class population is expected to increase even more rapidly in 2030 especially in Asia. Manufacturing local products of Jeju that goes well with Asian sentiments or styles will prompt more tourists visiting Jeju Island.
Even within Korea, if someone would like to travel to Jeju island, that person has to ride an airplane as a transportation and its high price is always a burden that halts people from visiting Jeju as the survey proves that most of expenses of the tourists in Jeju Island are actually sent for lodging and transportations. The more low-cost airlines are available, the more people travel, and this trend is proven through statistics. More cheap-cost airlines should be opened to enable as many visitors to travel Jeju Island.
Our group planned to actually conduct an interview on random tourists in Jeju Island to ask their purposes of visiting Jeju, what they have enjoyed the most so far, and also the difficulties that might have made them feel unsatisfied during the travel. We chose O’sulloc as our interviewing place. Based on researches and our interviews, our conclusion is analyzed in graphs.
